FULBRIGHT-TEACHERS FOR GLOBAL CLASSROOMS connects TGC alumni/teacher-consultants across the United States providing units of study and lesson plans for integrating global perspectives with all content area. The lesson plans below link middle school art teachers with content area teachers who have traveled, taught, and successfully incorporated these lessons into their curriculum. All lesson plans are formatted per UbD model.
GLOBAL SELF PORTRAITS- (by Jill Ritchey 2014 Alumni)-As part of the TGC program we were challenged to take one of our existing lesson plans in our content area and modify it to include global competencies. I chose to work on a unit on self portraits, which is a common subject that most art teachers teach, and to "globalize" it. This is an example of an Unit plan in Visual Art ("Global" Self Portraits) that I adapted using the Understanding by Design Format recommended by TGC. EMPATHY AND VISUAL STORY TELLING: MIGRATION STORIES- (by E. Gambino-2016 Alumni) It is essential that we educate students to be empathetic enough to connect to global problems and empowered to take action on both the local and global level.Below are resources and unit plan for a unit on Migration developed with the support of Teachers for Global Classrooms. The unit is designed for an advanced high school/early college art room but is easily modifiable for english and social studies as well.
