Teachers for Global Classrooms Program. The Teachers for Global Classrooms Program (in 2018 this program becomes the Fullbright TGC) knows that for students to have a global perspective, their instructors need to gain one through their own international travel. Each year, about 80 educators are selected for the program (funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by the nonprofit IREX) and challenged to transform their classrooms to enhance students’ global points of view.
Since 1980, the Keizai Koho Center (Japan Institute for Social and Economic Affairs) in cooperation with the National Association of Japan-America Societies (NAJAS) has sponsored a Teacher Fellowship to Japan for educators in the U.S. and Canada. The Fellowship allows teachers to learn firsthand about contemporary Japanese society and enhance their classroom teaching of global perspectives. Highlights of the fellowship include visits to Japanese schools, major companies, and industrial facilities. In addition, sightseeing excursions are planned to allow the fellows to learn about Japanese culture and society
The mission of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Teacher at Sea Program is to provide teachers hands-on, real-world research experience working at sea with world-renowned NOAA scientists, thereby giving them unique insight into oceanic and atmospheric research crucial to the nation. The program provides a unique opportunity for kindergarten through college-level teachers to sail aboard NOAA research ships to work under the tutelage of scientists and crew.

Chajul is a genocide-torn indigenous Maya community where few adults can read and most families live on less than two dollars a day. Limitless Horizons Ixil is rooted in this community and has grown out of its aspirations and challenges, responding to more and more needs as we build our local leadership and organizational capacity to address them. What started as a simple scholarship program became much greater as we developed new initiatives to better serve youth and give them every opportunity to succeed. Limitless Horizons Ixil is the only organization of its kind in Chajul, focusing on this critical work that will enable the community to rebound from a scarred past and create the future it envisions. StudentsEntries on college applications and employment opportunities frequently ask for travel experience. Few families have the luxury of international travel as children complete their education. Presenting students with opportunities to gain a world view, interact with different cultures, and ultimately collaborate in service or project based learning increases opportunities in all walks of life. Resources for students are listed below. The good news: high academic performance is not the sole criterion. Interest, ability, ambition, and need enable students from all demographic and ethnicity to dream.
Student Youth Travel Association-The Silver Lining Program's mission is to recognize deserving students who have demonstrated through their action, intention, or circumstance the desire to expand their awareness, creating a dramatic life change. With the help of our volunteers, SYTA member companies, and our annual conference host cities, SYF has impacted nearly 500 students since 2006.
Each year, SYF grants an all-expense paid trip to approximately 35 students and youth who are selected from our annual conference host city to travel to another part of the world. Below are examples of some of our most recent Silver Lining trips. The youth travel to one of the SeaWorld parks and participate in a three-day resident camp program where they work hand in hand with the park's animal caregivers. They learn firsthand how to take care of animals and experience up close animal interactions. In addition, students learn about conservation programs and how their behavior and actions can impact wild places.
Students who write an essay describing what they learned and how they were impacted by travel could earn a scholarship of up to $1,500.00 USD! The other top four essay entries will also receive a cash scholarship of $1,000.00 USD! The SYTA Youth Foundation offers scholarships to students who use their creativity to compose an article or speech that illustrates a student travel experience.
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants for individually designed study/research projects or for English Teaching Assistant Programs. A candidate will submit a Statement of Grant Purpose defining activities to take place during one academic year in a participating country outside the U.S.
During their grants, Fulbrighters will meet, work, live with and learn from the people of the host country, sharing daily experiences. The program facilitates cultural exchange through direct interaction on an individual basis in the classroom, field, home, and in routine tasks, allowing the grantee to gain an appreciation of others’ viewpoints and beliefs, the way they do things, and the way they think. Through engagement in the community, the individual will interact with their hosts on a one-to-one basis in an atmosphere of openness, academic integrity, and intellectual freedom, thereby promoting mutual understanding. classroom connectionsTransform SC utilizes business leaders, education experts, government organizations and NGO's into collaborative work to address the needs of South Carolina's 21st century workforce and community at large. For example, in children's health and School to Work initiatives, Transform SC invites participation from all groups at varying degrees of involvement. Through the SC Department of Education, Problem Based Learning and Personalized Learning-(Competency Based Education) drive the change in SC schools.
New Tech Network has partnered with Transform SC to create simulation modules for project based learning. Using issues prevalent in South Carolina and the nation, NTN experts provided guidance and templates for creating meaningful learning at the elementary and middle school levels.

Not to worry, with the abundant social media outlets and the network capabilities of most U.S. school districts field trips are as close as a click of the mouse. Web based platforms have been created by NGO's and education departments at major universities around the globe to connect students on one continent with a classroom on another continent. In our travels through Teachers for Global Classroom-U.S. Dept. of Education, Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs we discovered one predominant observation: Students in other countries share the same ambitions, hopes, and dreams as our own students-an opportunity to make a difference in their world. In this era of interconnection, disconnection, and rapid change, it is vitally important to offer young people opportunities to dialogue and build understandings with peers from different backgrounds. An initiative of Project Zero at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Out of Eden Learn is a free online program for students aged 3-19 that has so far served over 20,000 students in 57 countries. On Out of Eden Learn’s custom built, social media platform, students of similar ages from diverse geographical and socioeconomic settings come together for collective learning experiences.

World Savvy is a national education nonprofit that works with educators, schools, and districts to integrate the highest quality of global competence teaching and learning into K-12 classrooms, so all young people can be prepared to engage, succeed, and meet the challenges of 21st century citizenship.
This guide is also designed to lead students through an exploration of their own identity and the communities of which they are a part of. Students will have an opportunity to explore and investigate some of the most relevant social, political, cultural, economic, and environmental barriers. Additionally, they will examine the impact of barriers throughout history, focusing on building empathy, understanding perspectives, examining individual and group identities, and identifying current and relevant local and global barriers or breaking of barriers. The World's Largest Lesson connects students to issues of global importance by topic. Elementary students and high school students alike study hunger, poverty, ecology, climate change, with age appropriate lessons. Choose to use all or select a few.
