FULBRIGHT-TEACHERS FOR GLOBAL CLASSROOMS connects TGC alumni/teacher-consultants across the United States providing units of study and lesson plans for integrating global perspectives with all content area. The lesson plans below link middle school social studies teachers with content area teachers who have traveled, taught, and successfully incorporated these lessons into their curriculum. All lesson plans are formatted per UbD model.
ENVIRONMENTS AND CULTURES OF EAST ASIA (by Anita Benedix- 2015 Alumni) Students will learn about the physical and cultural characteristics of East Asia. They will explore information about how the environment has affected people's way of living as well as the ways in which development and globalization have impacted both the environment and cultures.
A LONG WAY GONE-(by Jen Knick-2017 Alumni)- Students will be learning about world conflicts, specifically focusing on children soldiers. They will hone research, reading, and writing skills as well as address their own bias towards “others” and “walk in someone else’s shoes” by the conclusion of this unit.
iCivics Curriculum Units-iCivics.org founded by Justice Sandra Day O'Connor in 2009 to "a new generation of students for thoughtful and active citizenship" provides complete lessons for a variety of topics relating to current events and our U.S. democracy. Lessons and games can be used in part or as entire units of study. Global Oneness Project- Founded in 2006, Global Oneness Project uses story-telling to explore cultural, environmental, and social issues. Stories are enhanced by multi-media, essays, and photo-journalism; teachers can select from these vast resources to supplement instruction at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
